    Cliffs. Rocks. Cacti. Song birds. Everywhere you look there is something about the nature that less you on a path through the large canyon. You would probably feel like an ant in a dirt pile. Tumbleweeds blew in the wind and you’d see the occasional coyote prowling around. 

    A canyon seemed like the best option. It seemed... beautiful. Sheltered, even, from the harsh sun rays when sunhigh came just beyond the edge of the gorge. A thin river was leading your way as you continue.

    With gentle paws, and determination, up ahead lies an oasis.

    You've heard of this area- home to a clan full of cats that sang to their ancestors with joy, and called themselves the cats of the wild west. They were commonly called the cats of the canyon.

    You just had to find out more of this- you needed to find out how they survived down here in the canyon.

    With a deep breath, you plow your way into the camp that is being sheltered by the oasis- you spot a small ginger tabby talking to a group of cats from a large boulder that seemed to be hollowed out from the stream when it cut through here.

    All attention turns to you as a breeze blows from behind. The ginger tabby jumps off the rock and makes its way over, green eyes blazing as they stop in front of you. The sent of raw earth and fruit juice makes you nostrils flare as you tuck your tail under your hind legs and blink fearfully.

    "Howdy, wanderer. I am Firestar, leader of this here Canyonclan. I see you must have heard of the tale that tells you to follow the river to a clan that lives at the oasis."The cat begins, his mew calm and rather warm. He didn't seem like he planned to hurt you- unless this was just an act.

    Another cat joins, looking curious. This cat was a little larger, and their fur was a dark brown tabby in color. "And I'm Cactuspurr. We indeed live here, and this canyon serves as our territory. We aren't welcome to those who just wander around our territory." The molly started, seeming a little more aggressive than the so called leader.

    The ginger tabby cut her off with a hard stare. That's when you realize he only had one ear. What happened to these cats? "I assume you are not looking for trouble. However, Cactuspurr is correct. I would prefer you to leave... Unless... You decide to join us and start as an apprentice of Canyonclan, then you may wander the territory, and call this your home as well. Now..." His green eyes stared into yours, though no signs of betrayal seemed to be caught in the green iris' of the leader named Firestar. 

    It looked as if he was expecting a deciding right then an there... So, with a nod of your head, you stand up taller, relaxing.

    "Then welcome to Canyonclan. May our ancestors guide you onto the path or a warrior." Firestar announced, before backing up, letting the rest of the gathering cat's greet and welcome you.

Rules >>

i. Literacy. This is at least a semi-literate Clan. Please, do your best to type at least five lines per cat, per post. And try to keep grammar and spelling mistakes to a minimum. We understand mistakes every once in a while, and low muse does happen. But too many mistakes and one-liners are not accepted.

ii. Spirit Guide Limits. Not every animal will be known to the cats, so rarer animals will be limited in how many cats they guide. For instance, animals like a Peregrine Falcon will be very limited, because the cats won’t know about them much. But a mouse, or a rabbit? Those are more common, so they’ll be some of the most common guides.

iii. LGBT+. This RP is LGBT+ friendly, which means we accept cats from this community. If you can’t accept that, this is not the RP for you.

iv. Activity. Please, try to be on at least two times a week. Too much work went into this Clan for people to join and then never come back. After a week of no activity, you will receive a warning. After two weeks, your cats will be temporarily deleted to save space. If you know you’ll be gone for a long period time, please let us know so we can place you on excused absence.

v. Harassment. This will not be tolerated at all. In character, issues with others are fine. But keep any OOC drama out of the RP. If you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all.

vi. Spam. Please, don’t spam this thread. If you’re calling someone back to your RP, that’s alright, but please don’t do so repeatedly. Bumping is also not preferred, a little inactivity for a few hours is no big deal.

vii. Forum Rules. Forum rules are our rules. Follow them, and follow our rules as well.

viii. Realism. Alright, we realize that we are allowing uncommon names. But that’s it. No cats with pink or red eyes unless they are albino, and no purple pelts or wings. We want this to be at least mostly realistic.

ix. Joining. Please join with at least one cat of both male and female genders. Feel free to make more than two, but no more than you can handle, please. We’d hate for a cat to be made and then never RP’ed. Please also join on the correct page. thank you. Be sure to look over prefixes & spirit guides.

x. Password. Read everything carefully. The FIRST PART of the PASSWORD is "Wild". Find the second part somewhere on this thread. Hint- read over the plot section.

xi. Bandannas. Ahh, bandannas a a mark of what makes a character themselves. BUT please do NOT add your cats bandanna color right off the bat. I or a mod will give you choices of colors you are allowed to choose from based of the cats personality. I repeat, DO NOT add the characters bandanna color until AFTER we give you a choice of colors. thank you. you can, however, request for a certain color option

History >>

yodelstar- founder. appledusk - first medicine cat, yodelstars mate. graycloud- first deputy. sandsplash - ancestral pool founder and grayclouds mate.
his owner passed away, he was founded by another ground who lived in the canyon, and then he decided to lead them to a beautiful oasis. The clan eventually grew as more and more cats came along and found a better living as a group. The group eventually became a clan, dubbing Yodel, at the time, as their leader. The night he was given the position, starry spirits - later called the Ancestors - showed in his dream, dubbing him Yodelstar and giving him nine lives. Now, these cats were never seen again, having been told to have belonged to another clan called Frostclan of the sorts- far away, but they made their way over to guide the clan as much as they needed until Yodelstar could handle it. With Graycloud being his deputy. For a few moons and seasons, the two led the clan, along with Appledawn as their medicine cat, who eventually trained the current medicine cat.
The clan is only in it's second generation, causing it to be new, and barely known throughout the west, but Firestar is the current leader and trying his hardest to lead them to victory...
- as of now, it is known that medicine cats can have mates and have kits, until a medicine cat makes the rule of only mates and no kits.

Yodelstar - a massive brown tabby tom with amber eyes. He loves to sing. He died of a flood.

Graycloud -  a massive gray tabby tom with blue eyes. He died of heat stroke.

Appledusk - a mottled ginger tabby with green eyes molly. She died of heat stroke, as well.

Sandsplash - a pale ginger molly with green eyes. She founded the pool inside the cave behind the waterfall. She died of drowning.

About Canyonclan >>

Characteristics ;;
Having only been a few seasons since Canyonclan was founded, the cats have somewhat to the harsh environment into which they were born, the cats of CanyonClan have semi-adapted to carry common characteristics. One of the more notable ones being their smaller but athletic builds, allowing them to carefully scale their terrain. Yet some degree of muscle is necessary in order to have both the stamina and the strength needed in order to ascend our steep homes carefully. A further addition to aid them in this essential part of their day to day lives is the thickness of their pads. Unusually sturdy as to avoid needless injury on the rocky ground underfoot. Whilst darker colors are by no means unheard, it is most beneficial to carry a lighter color as to aid with cooling down in our warm environment. Finally, the cats of our ranks tend to have sleek coats, thin furred again as an adaptation to avoid overheating.
These cats are most of kittypet, rogue and loner descent, BUT since these cats have traveled, pads have grown tough, and pelt colors have been changing around the clan. Many travelers come along and join Canyonclan for survival reasons.

Traditions ;;
- gathering of the ancients ;; on a half moon, medicine cats, leader and deputy gather inside the cave behind the waterfall. Inside is a beautiful glittering silver pool named the silver pond. These three or four cats lay beside the pool and share tongues with their Ancestors. This is similar to half moon meetings in the books.
- courtship ;; when one cat wishes to ask another to be their mate, they create a flower crown (or a cowboy hat for the males, or depending on what their partner wishes) that corresponds with the color of the one askings bandanna color. So, if a cat with a purple bandanna is asking another cat, then they create a purple flower crown, or leathered hat with a purple ribbon around it. The have a charm of the one whos asked spirit guide. { NOTE : cats also typically sing and yodel for the one they wish to court- it proves loyalty and their attraction to them. }
- bandanna giving ;; when an apprentice is given their warrior name, their mentor is given the job of announcing the apprentices main personality trait- the one that they've shown the most as they have grown. The color of the bandanna corresponds with this. They are given a bandanna with their personality, and the apprentice is given the choice of adding their spirit guide at the time they are given the bandanna, or wait until the day after just in case they have a new dream of a new spirit guide (this happens very rarely!)
- apprentice quest ;; apprentices are sent out the day before they receive their warrior name and tested on all the skills they have learned. This includes : Hunting, fighting, rock climbing/canyon scaling, and observation.
- ceremonies ;; regular as always- besides the giving of the spirit guides. When a kit is apprenticed, they choose a spirit guide. This is only done after the dream they receive from their ancestors of the animal that will guide them. Dreams vary on how much the spirit animal guide is needed. then, later on, when they are given their bandanna, if the animal hasn't changed after their warrior ceremony, then the animal is placed on the bandanna.
- yodeling/singing ;; a unique tradition set up by Yodelstar- the first leader started it after his owner passed away. He learned it from two-legs and taught a group of cats where they traveled, singing old country songs and yodeling as they traveled. Yodeling is done when a cat is made an apprentice or warrior, now. And occasionally when a cat wishes to court someone.
- herb gathering ;; the season of spring where their is rain and warmth that the herbs have sprouted. Apprentices, warriors and medicine cats go out to collect as much as they can, and what they can. NOTE: a few days is taken before hand to explain each herb to the younger cats that haven't done so before. Though it may seem hard, many seem to get them in the second chance they get.
- sharing tongues ;; a time of day where every cat eats their last meal of the day, and shares tongues- grooming and sharing their day story with everyone.
- feast week ;; the very last week of spring, where the prey runs it's best. This comes once a year, and sometimes not at all. It's where hunting patrols are sent out at dawn, and the clan feasts for the first time that day right at the break of dusk. This happens for a whole week.
- day of joy ;; a gather of the sorts, where everyone takes breaks (though patrols are still sent out occasionally, for precautions.) and cats participate in games such as: toss the rock (into a hole, or the farthest), canyon scaling (the cat who scales the highest, wins), and hunting and battle contests. Apprentices are tested as well, and sometimes given their warrior name after this day. This happens once a month- though hardly ever in the freeze season.

apprentices are trained to do the following: hunt, fight, canyon scaling/rock climbing, and observation.
medicine cats are also taught those things, for reasons in case they are needed to defend the clan. They are all also taught herb gathering, as the season of herb collecting will come.

Medicine cats typically inherit the green bandanna for their "healing" of the clan BUT they are allowed to have another depending on their trait. traits will be added as more are given, these are just base traits atm. feel free to give your cat a trait not  on the list, but discuss a color with the mods before hand. ]

Territory >>

Their territory is mostly a canyon- there are different areas and landmarks on interest that the clan uses as guides, borders, or just for training. They keep inside their territory, and tend to keep away from two legs, as there are no two leg places around.

Joshua Tree Grove - a grove of joshua trees- the best place to hunt for mice and lizards of the sorts.
Cacti Territory - an area where wild cacti are an abundance. They grow here, and the cats tend to stick away from here, as needles are found along the floor, and no one likes getting those  in their paws.
Wells Gorge - The gorge that leads towards the camp- mostly where hares, birds and mice and lizards are found to hunt. Best hunting spot, as it tends to be shaded from cliff over hangs and cracks in the wall, large enough for cats to escape the harsh sun. Pools of water can be found on the ground. Cats are tested their wall scaling here.
Apex Hollow - where the apprentices are taught battle techniques. Nothing special- this is found just outside the camp, and it's surrounded by dense bushes and trees.

Camp >>

canyonclan has settled in the most beautiful of places, this being an oasis at the bottom of a gorge. They have greenery surrounding the camp, and a beutiful pool in the middle that flows from a waterfall, and runs into a cave behind the waterfall. Inside the waterfalls cave is where the Silver Pool is, a place where medicine cats and leaders speak with the Ancestors of Canyonclan. Around the gorge is where the clan makes dens, or inside the bushes, away from the harsh sun rays.

leaders den - Closest to the waterfall, the leader is housed in a large boulder that was carved out by a stream from the oasis. Yodelstar eventually bordered it up so he could sleep in there. Now, Firestar sleeps there.
medicine cats den - housed under a few bushes and shrubs, they are on the other side of the camp/oasis, and the closest to the waterfall from that side.It's up against the canyon wall, where they use the cracks to store herbs, as the wall is cool and sheltered from the sun.
warriors den - closest to the entrance, this den is sheltered by various bushes. The den is a medium size, as the clan isn't that large yet. But they are here to protect the clan from intruders and unwelcome guests.
apprentice den - on the other side of the entrance, the apprentice den is a similar layout to the warriors den.
nursery den - sheltered under both trees and bushes, this den is to the right of the warriors den, and closest to the leaders den. The den is protected by a bunch of pear cacti, so the if anything tries crashing the den or landing on it, they'll have paws full of prickles.
elders den - closest to the medicine cat den, and to the left of the apprentice den, this den is much like the nursery, but it's sheltered under a cliff over hang.

Cliff Overhang - right above the elders den, this is where the leader calls gatherings and hold ceremonies.
Oasis Pool - the clean, crystal blue water in the back of the camp where the clan drinks from and occasionally swims in on the hotter days. The hotter the season is, the lower the water level.

Plot Line >>

THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THIS ROLEPLAY. YOU ARE REQUIRED TO READ THIS.

Firestar's leadership is either looked up to, or looked down on by the clan, splitting it in two. Members believe that he shouldn't have been made leader or deputy so soon after Yodelstar passed away, their previous deputy following rapidly after as a heat stroke struck the tabby named Graycloud. Firestar was chosen by the starry spirit of Yodelstar and Graycloud and a few of the two's family and other cats that previously died in the clan to become leader. Since the ginger tabby hadn't had an apprentice, Yodelstar claimed he'd mentor [ apprentice ] once they came of age. Many believe he isn't worthy or ready to be a leader at such an early age of 25 moons. The second part of the password is "West".
Now, he's been leader for about two moons and many still stick to what they believe as he still tries his hardest. With the now on coming drought before the winter season, many believe it's a sign from their ancestors that he will either fail in his reign, or he will bring the clan out of its horror of not having water.
But, who knows what will happen? Only time will tell..
